Baked Apple Roses

Ingredients

  • 2 large Red apples , (like Honeycrisp or Gala)
  • 1 sheet Puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • 3 tbsp Apricot preserves
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting), Optional

Instructions

Prepare the apples:

  • 1

Cut apples in half, core them, and slice very thinly (about ⅛ inch).

  • 2

Place slices in a bowl with water and lemon juice. Microwave for 3 minutes to soften.

Assemble the roses:

  • 1

Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 strips (about 2 inches wide).

  • 2

Microwave the apricot preserves with 1 tbsp water for 30 seconds. Stir to loosen.

  • 3

Brush each puff pastry strip with the apricot preserves.

  • 4

Lay apple slices along the top edge of each strip, overlapping, with the red peel side sticking out above the edge.

  • 5

    Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples.

  • 6

Fold the bottom of the pastry strip up over the apples and carefully roll each strip into a rose shape.

  • 7

Place each rose into a muffin tin lined with parchment or greased well.

Bake:

  • 1

Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes, or until golden and crisp. If the apples brown too quickly, loosely tent with foil.

  • 2

Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Storage: Best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temp for up to 2 days.

  • Make-ahead: Assemble roses ahead and refrigerate before baking.

  • Swaps: Use pear slices for a fun twist. Substitute the apricot preserves with honey or maple syrup.
